I have a 5K late 2015 27" iMac with a 2TB hydrid drive. As many have seen, APFS doesn't care for rotating disks too much.Because I boot and run off of an external SSD now, I thought I'd experiment so I reformatted the hybrid's ssd and installed Catalina on it.It's tight at only 128GB, but it mounts, and boots and runs fast, just like it's (only) an internal SSD.The odd thing is that the Cataline image I installed on the internal rotating disk of the hydrid drive didn't seem to care at all, as if the SSD component hasn't been used. Nothing griped, performance of the rotating drive hasn't changed at all. What's the truth here? Has the SSD component of the hybrid drive been ignored all this time with the arrival of APFS?It appears that way.
